Last night, Alice and I attended our first Pi Beta Phi alumni club meeting. To be honest, I wasn’t super eager to go. It was being held at some schmancy home in PV. All I could picture were a bunch of blinged-out 70 year olds sipping earl grey tea and showing off their latest crochet creations. When we would get to the door, they’d quiz us with Pi Phi history trivia and if we’d stumble, they yell out “IMPOSTERS!” as we’d race back home to dig out our dusty pledge manuals.
Of course, it was nothing like that. In fact, it was fun. We ran into two girls from our chapter, unleashed some obligatory sorority-gal squeals and spent most of the evening catching up over multiple glasses of chardonnay. We also met some other kickass women from all walks of life. It was a neat experience, something that’s so beyond my current (pathetically Asian-ified) social bubble. I suddenly missed sorority life and all the laughter and ruckus that came with it. At least I’ll be able to relive that experience on one Tuesday every other month.

You live in Southern California. It’s Asians or Mexicans here. Take your pick.

Nothing like being a room of awesome chicks, some dating their college years back to the 40s…makes me feel so much more…hip. =)
