This Thanksgiving, Matt, Alice, Carissa and I got off our lazy bottoms, tied on aprons and served warm turkey dinners to the homeless. I met a man with one leg who writes poetry on a wrinkled I Love Lucy notebook. Carissa met a lady who’s friend (allegedly) met Paris Hilton in jail. Everyone smiled and seemed genuinely thankful. You could tell they were hungry because some were licking their plates clean. (I assured them that they were allowed seconds or thirds, or for one jovial Spanish-speaking fellow, fifths.) I am not usually a very charitable person, but I think if you keep meeting people in need, your heart will keep getting heavier and it will no longer be an issue of “Maaaybe I should help.” Giving will somehow be this instinctive human response and you’ll never again believe that you’ve done enough. I’d love to get there one day.
Thanks to Kit, whose blog always inspires me.
See photos from the event here. There’s one of Matt.

wow, that was pretty deep sis. I’m glad your heart got heavier by doing this one time. lol. Do you want to do it again for Christmas. Remember we had to watch that homeless women’s bad while she went to the bathroom, and it took her like 30 mins to come out, i think she took a shower or something.
