There seem to be a zillion tiny things going on here. When you put them all together, I suppose they can coalesce into a post. That’s a big word, you know. Coalesce. One thing weird interesting thing about me is that while I make a living by writing words, I know very few. Thesaurus.com is my BFF. We are brothas from anotha motha. Anyway, that is not one of my things.
One thing is that it is my fish’s birthday. His name is Finneas. He is blue. I tried to take a picture of him, but when it came out, he looked like a big black blob instead of his real-life superfab self. Matt said I should shine a light directly on him and change the setting on my camera, but that sounded too complicated. I thought, hey, I’m a writer. I can just describe him. Um, did I tell you he’s blue? Anyway, he was sent into my life one year ago when my sister bought him for my grandma for Mother’s Day. My grandma said aww, that’s sweet, and went home without him (and never asked about him thereafter). So the fish was an orphan and I saved him. Twice a day, I feed him 3 to 4 pellets, unless I forget.
Another thing is that it was Mother’s Day. We spent it at the cemetery. My (other) grandma passed away 30 years ago, before I was born, and our big extended family makes it a point to visit a couple times a year. I know this sounds creepy, but these visits are really fun. Last time, my cousin brought his ukelele and we sat around and sang Weezer songs. This time, my other cousins used my grandpa’s cane as a limbo stick and had all the little cousins limbo under it. You think this is weird, huh? JUST SAY IT.
Another thing is that we just saw my sister on “Live From The Hills.” She’s wearing a black dress and she’s waving from the outdoor audience. My parents keep screaming as if their daughter just got into Harvard. You can bet they’ll be replaying this on TiVo all month long. No, I’m not bitter.
Another thing is that we went to the Magic Castle. We were sitting at the bar watching this guy do magic and he turns to me and asks whether I want to see the cards face up or face down. I reply “eight of hearts” and everyone was like, uhhhhh. That was pretty stupid.
Another thing is that Alice and I have been running almost every weekday morning. It’s not that fun.
OK, I think that’s it.

Aw…..what part of running isn’t fun? The fact that it’s at 6:30am or that we’re inhaling a field of cow poop the whole time?

Let me rephrase that.
NOT FUN: 6:30 a.m., inhaling poop, trying to make ourselves feel better by saying “Yay, we’re 1/6 of the way to our goal!” 6:30 a.m., running in front of the entire high school band, 6:30 a.m.
FUN: Being with Alice!

Since when is the high school band cool? They should be embarrassed that people are running around them.

my family spends thanksgiving and christmas at the cemetery. do you think it’s a cultural thing? although we sing hymns instead of weezer. but your cemetery sessions sounds more fun. maybe this november i’ll insert hymn lyrics into “island in the son”. or do limbo to amazing grace.

not sure if it’s a cultural thing. could be. we go to rose hills and it’s beautiful. my grandmother is buried at the top of a hill in an area that no one really goes to (i think because the deceased in that section died so many years ago). we tried to have a picnic one time, but a security guy happened to be around and said “no picnics.” limboing to amazing grace sounds pretty awesome. do it!
