Pop Star Reject - The Most Famous Michelle Woo in the World

New and improved

August 3rd, 2008 · 14 Comments · General

Just as I’ve been questioning whether it’s the best idea to blog by my real name, weary that my real-life identity may be a little too exposed for comfort, what do I ultimately do? Put my picture in my header, of course!

Welcome to the new, even more self-glorifying michellewoo.com. Oooooooh. Preeeeeeeetty.

It’s now more of a writer’s website, you know, in case a Newsweek editor mistypes Michelle Wie in his Google search bar and stumbles here. (Hi editor!) I’ve been meaning to clean up my online portfolio for ages, and while it’s not perfect (keep checking for periodical updates), you can now find my KoreAm stories in PDF format. Thanks to Matt for all his work on that.

Also, I am no longer Pop Star Reject. I know it probably isn’t good blogiquette to just alter your alias — I’m sorry. To the four people who have me on your blogrolls, would you mind changing me? I became Pop Star Reject five years ago when I was obsessed with celebrity culture and now I only care about that stuff a little. Maturity? Let’s hope.

A million thanks to my supremely talented cousin Tiffany Chin for designing and illustrating the header. In the background is the Redondo Beach Pier, which is like five minutes from my house. Neat, huh?

Happy browsing!

You’ll still always be the most famous Michelle Woo in the world to me.

This is version 2.0 of the header image. The first revision had me in it, but apparently I didn’t make the cut. Michelle said it was bad for her image to have me in there. Version 3.0 is in the works and will probably feature Brad Pitt, someone with a little more star power.

Love the new header. Will update my blogroll asap. But fyi, the page is kind of slow to load. I’m on Firefox on a Mac, in case it’s browser specific.

It’s most likely just a hiccup in your connection.

It’s been tested under Camino, Webkit, Safari, Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer under Windows and Mac.

Hi Woo Woo! Love the new look. Reminds me of the opening in Juno for some reason. I’m up for the multi-course dinner. See you soon! =)

it’s a tad slow for me too - specifically on firefox.

I honestly doubt it’s the browser, since we did the majority of testing on Firefox 3. I’m also testing over and over, making sure not to use cached pages. It’s more likely to be a coincidental connection issue, whether on the client side or the server side. I’ll keep an eye out still, but leave the code and networking to me.

That is why the header doesn’t say, “Writer. Editor. IT Nerd.”

Works on firefox 3 on my end. The only part that is weird is the background shows up first for half a second, covering the text…then the white background comes in to make the text readable.

Okay, reading Matt’s list of tested browsers cracked me up.

Anyway. I think what I meant was what F.J. said. The background covers the text for a second and then the text loads. It’s a bit disorienting. (But still, oooh, so purty!)

Aw, the Dreamer and the IT nerd. Hehe. :)

My Internet connection must be faster than everyone else, from both work and home. The load delay is a split second for me. The delay is magnified on slower connections, because we’re waiting on code from an external server. Is anyone seeing it upwards of eight seconds? If not, I don’t think I’ll be coding a workaround anytime soon.

I can’t believe Alice is the only one that noticed the header is inspired by Juno’s intro sequence.

I love the new look mish! Miss you!

Curious does “half a second” mean the same thing as a “split second?”

  • 13 m@ // Aug 5, 2008 at 8:03 pm

If you split the second in half, then yes. If you split into any other fraction, no.
