My favorite part of the floor exercises in gymnastics is That Moment. It’s that moment just before the grand finale where, in a flash, she’ll race into a medley of FLIPS! and TWISTS! That moment when all is still in the arena of hope or doom. She stands in the corner, her back straight, her eyes zooming forward. She takes a deep breath. This is it, she thinks. This is where I throw all those 8-hour days at the gym, the lessons of all who’ve coached me, the daily victories, the tears of frustration, the nights when I squirmed in bed while dreaming of wearing that gold medal. This is it. It’s now or never. Focus. You can do this. Now go.
Y’all know what moment I’m talking about?
Too bad the USA blew it tonight. The Olympics are seriously messing with my bedtime.

There’s no way those girls on China’s gymnastics team are 16. I bet you most of them aren’t event in their teens yet. Still, they’re way better than the United States. Oh the shame.
