Fresh

There’s something invigorating about October. Perhaps it’s the fact that we’ve entered the final stretch of the year and if your goals have been lagging behind reality, now is the time to rev up your little engine and bring them up to speed before the carolers start bustin’ out “Oh Holy Night.” Here’s what I’d like to do this month: sign up for a children’s book writing course, cook stuff and feed people, visit new places in L.A., start reading a real book (suggestions?), accessorize, run on the beach, “network.” But first I need to clean my room. Nothing good can happen with a messy room.

Great idea. My fall goals are to be more social and active. I don’t want to hibernate again this winter.

… books… “Thought Gang” by Tibor Fischer or “Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates” by Tom Robbins or “The Namesake” by Jhumpa Lahiri

    Ahhh… fall/winter reading!

I feel ya on the room. My teeny tiny room is jammed so full of crap that I get a little depressed every time I come home. But, I’m too tired to actually do anything about it!

books: 3 Cups of Tea (AWESOME!), Tales of a Female Nomad, and A Walk Across America.

Childrens’ books? You totally should do that! I’ve always wanted to do that too…but I’m not as good of a writer as you are! You’d rock! :) Accessorizing is a good thing - too bad it takes effort. I often fail in that dept, esp lately. And a clean room is a great place to start. (Do you like how I leave rambling comments on every single one of your posts?)

Hi Mish. I just finished a really good book. The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards.

    define real.

    no seriously.

i LOVED Jen Lancaster’s “Bitter is the New Black” memoir — there’s 2 more after that. They are RIDICULOUSLY funny.

Also, try “I Was Told There’d Be Cake” which is a collection of essays by Sloane Crossley — also hysterical!

I could help with some new places to visit in LA — I grew up there — you must visit the LA County Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art if you haven’t already.

More tips to come, if you’re interested!

I haven’t read a novel in about a year so can’t really help you there. (Gosh, writing that sentence made me cry a little.)

But if you decide to take a children’s book writing course, let me know. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time so maybe we could take it together? Because, you know, I’ve got so much free time! :P

Have you been to the Venice canals? I was surprised at how much I liked it. I’ve also been wanting to walk around downtown during the day. I drove down 7th through the jewelry district the other day and couldn’t believe how beautiful the buildings are. LA’s architecture is so neglected.
