Quick Thinker

Every once in a while, Matt likes to clean out my Gmail inbox. I guess seeing 1,546 un-archived messages gives him a nervous tick. I don’t particularly enjoy this process (Did I leave anything incriminating in there? Stop looking at that!), but when it’s all over, I’m always left with a bright, clutter-free station.

Yesterday, as he was tagging my Twitter messages and Borders newsletters, I was being my usual bratty self. “NOOOO! Don’t touch that coupon! I need it! OK, stop. I like my inbox the way it is! 586 unread messages really isn’t that bad. Give me the laptop. Come on!”

After much bickering, we suddenly landed upon one of our old email exchanges, one from when he was on a business trip to Michigan. It was disgustingly cute. I had forgotten that we used to drop each other sweet notes like that all the time while I was living in Arizona.

“Aww, you really love me, don’t you?” I asked.

Still irked, he mumbled under his breath: “Barely.”

“WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?!”

“I … I said … merrily. I love you merrily!”

People, those days of yore are over.

  1. Haha! That’s why I don’t let my BF in my gmail unless absolutely necessary. He’d want to go on a major cleaning spree. The 112 unread emails I currently have hanging out in my inbox have him completely bugging out!

  2. I never clean out my inbox, I should but there are always so many other things to do. :0)

  3. muahaha. MERRILY.

matt just got major props from me.

  4. We pretty much keep anything computer related sole and separate. Makes life much easier for both of us. Plus, with the amount of email I get, I know my sweetie would totally not be down with dealing with it all. Heck, I hardly handle it myself.

  5. OMG. I would die if I had that many unread messages in my Inbox. I’m pretty much crazy about my Gmail account, and make sure everything is perfectly tagged and archived. If I have more than 10 messages in my inbox, I go a little crazy.

  6. Awww. That’s kind of cute.

  7. Aww, sweet. I got major props!

I’m with Jessica on this one. I currently have 15 messages in my inbox. These include ongoing conversations, receipts for purchases that haven’t arrived yet, and weekly backups of my WordPress databases. A clean inbox is a sign of a clean mind.

Just don’t ask me about my work inbox.

  8. Oh he is a quick thinker! I’m with you though, anyone touching my email will cause a panic attack that requires scraping off the ceiling. It’s not that I have anything to hide, it just feels invasive.

  9. Stealthnerd: 112? Bah. Amateur. ;)

Mandy: I KNOW. Like not cleaning the closet.

Sarahbelledotcom: Whose side are you on, anyway?

    Phil: Good thinking.

Jessica: I envy people like you.

    Fishing Around: Haha.. sorta!

m@: They say that about uncluttered handbags, too. Clean state of mind. For girls, that is. My handbag, well, yeah let’s not go there.

Vanessa: Exactly. I have nothing to hide. Except … crap gotta delete something asap.

  10. Very quick thinking!

I would attack, maim, and kill Jesse if he ever tried that. I would change my password and learn kung fu, and stop being so Zen. I definitely don’t have anything in there he couldn’t see, and he definitely knows all my passwords, but I couldn’t function if I knew he was doing that.

At the same time, I can’t function with leaving 1 email as read lol

  11. good lord woman… i think i’d have more than a nervous tick if i saw over 500+ e-mails unread…. junk mail or not.

    i’m with your boy… clutter-free is the way to be… ugh… i rhymed.

    you made me rhyme woman!

  12. I think there’s a christmas carl with that title. But I bet it sucks, just like all the other carols (excluding Little Drummer Boy of course).

  13. I usually have a ton of unread messages, too.

    Who cares?

    :)

  14. Haha. Your boyfriend would probably lose it if he saw my inbox with 1848 messages all just hanging around. :)
