Yay for the princess! Princess Michelle!*

I’ve written before about how I’m not wild about the name Michelle. There are just too darn many of us. Do you know how hard I’ve had to work to become the Most Famous Michelle Woo in the World according to Google? (Um, not that hard.)

But recently, I’ve grown more and more proud of this cookie-cutter name I’ve been given. There are some kick-ass Michelles out there. We These women are changing the world. Meet them:

They say she could transform public education. Read about her here (Newsweek), here (The Atlantic) and here (Time). All balanced, captivating profiles.

Last night, she was crowned The Biggest Loser! My sister and I love that show. Each week, we would try to do lazy versions of their exercises. We knew she would be smokin’ hot once she lost all that weight. And look! Such an inspiration.

*Whoever knows where this title comes from is super rad.

  1. I am super rad. What’s my prize? I can’t stand the excitement. It’s like the first day of preschool!

  2. All four Michelle’s are pretty stellar!!

I read the Rhee article awhile back. She’s super cool… As is our future first lady.

  3. I know where the title is from too! I don’t like my name sometimes because of it’s popularity.

..and as a future teacher I have to admire Michelle Rhee. She eats bees!

  4. as the sara above me said, i’m so with you on the dislike of my cookie cutter name.

    hrumph.

    i must investigate cool sarah’s.

damn you for getting michelle obama.

we all know who i share a name with in the political category. roar.

  5. I believe that would be from the Disney World episode of Full House.
    I am super rad.

    :-)

  6. haha. at least you have that. the only candice’s i know is candice bergen (my name sake). but i like my name despite how “white” it is….

  7. Man Alexa beat me. I miss that show.

  8. It came from Full House.

They already said that, but I knew it, too!

Also: I was looking for your website the other day by typing “Michelle” into my browser (trying to get your URL to pop up) and instead of your blog, found an article I’d read about Michelle Obama.

So I was totally thinking about your name connection with her, too.

    Weird.

  9. the biggest loser always makes me want to go to the gym right away. congrats to michelle! woo.

  10. Mollie (michelle)

i didn’t like the name michelle because of the same reason you stated, there are just simply too many of us. but i guess all the michelles of the 60′s~80′s are kicking ass.

    WOO.

  11. this is not completely related, but this blog, about the first michelle mentioned, is way cool: http://www.mrs-o.org/

  12. I’m a Michelle too. And woot woot, word up to Full House!

  13. I’m Michelle too! And since there were always four Michelle’s in my class in grammar school, I was always “Michelle O.” During one holiday season when I was working at Bath & Body Works, there were 5 Michelle’s. So I was once again, Michelle O.

And now with Michelle Obama, I do a double take anytime I see her name in print or online.

I hated it when I was a kid but I have grown to love it way before I knew who Michelle Obama was.

Plus, I’m named after the Beatles song!
