Hair

I’ve been having a bad hair month. It’s so dead and droopy and greasy. Yuck. Why is it greasy? Even hours after I wash it. Whatever happened to second day hair? I think it’s all those fish oil capsules I’m taking. (My skin does still look radiant, by the way.) Even when it does look clean and somewhat voluminous, it’s kinda mom-ish. Like I’m about to slip on a pair of expandable-waist jeans and jump in my Toyota Sienna.

I’ve decided that I want long-ish hair again. I haven’t had long hair since high school! I was telling my sister about my plan and she was like why, and I was like ‘cuz I’m tired of short hair … and because I will one day have a wedding and brides don’t have short hair so if I start growing it out now, by the time it’s the big day, it’ll maybe be past my shoulders. And then she’s like, it’ll probably be down to your butt. Ha. Ha. Ha. See what she did there? Since no one ain’t proposing to me?

Anyway, here’s a video of one of my favorite singer/songwriters Priscilla Ahn getting a haircut. The video is freakin’ adorable (watch it!) but it kinda made me sad, not like Felicity-chopping-her-locks-off horrified, but more like awww, her long pretty hair! She still looks cute though.  By the way, it’s like 2:30 a.m. right now and I think this might be one of my delirious and superficial posts ever. Huzzah!

  1. That was a cute video! I’ll have to check out her music.

Growing out short hair is a bitch, haha! Good luck! I’m doing the same thing right now. :)

  2. I wont cut my hair above my shoulders because I am deathly afraid of mom hair.

  3. Once, when I was 14, my mom took me to one of those asian salons…I had hair to my mid back and I told them to take off 3 inches. Maybe they didn’t speak english because they gave me a chin-length cut with pompadore bangs. traumatized me for life, I haven’t had short hair since.

  4. i’m the total opposite, whenever my hair gets too long i freak out and have to cut it. why, i do not know, but i love me some short hair, woo.

  5. Good luck. I’m currently in the growing phase and it’s driving me crazy. I feel like once you cut it short, you always want to change it or cut it to make it look different. I’m resisting the daily urge to chop it. It’s torture!

  6. I just did the “I want new hair!” thing too, and wound up with bangs. Change is good :)

  7. Hair extension is the easiest, I spent like two years waiting for my hair to grow long again. Past my boobs now and I don’t think I will want to cut it. If somehow I’m tempted to have short hair, I’ll just wear a wig :P

  8. I actually did the same thing as her last December! The last time I had short hair was when I was a kid. I donated about 12 inches of my hair to Locks of Love. Now I need to grow back my hair for my wedding next year. Hopefully it grow long enough in time!

  9. I donated to Locks of Love too, in May! I figured it was time for a change and that Locks of Love was a good push for me to finally get rid of 10 inches of hair. I remember washing my long hair for the last time…I was a little dramatic. And while I love my short hair, it was totally worth it, I’m now totally having long hair envy. I kind of miss curling it, even though I hated curling it before. So I’m totally growing it out, but since I just decided that in the last few weeks, it seems like it’s taking forever.

And the video was too cute – I have to find some of her music!

  10. But growing-out-hair is horrid! I have no patience and these funky medium/short hair layer pieces are driving me insane! :( A friend suggested extensions… because I too believe that [bridal party members] need long hair!

Good luck, girl. You’ll definitely need it.

P.S.—try dry shampoo! I like Oscar Blandi’s. I get the small one from Sephora, becuase you really don’t need to use a lot. I have thick hair and I use probably a dime-size amount. I just hate that you can still sometimes see the whiteness of the powder against black hair, but I try to lessen that using one of those “boar-bristle” brushes and a blow-dryer. You can also try good ‘ole hair-spray. The alcohol is supposed to suck out the oil–much like facial remedies! Spray it on, run a blowdryer, toss and tousle, and you can go on your merry “I’m very engage-able” way! CHEERS!! xoxo :)

  11. When I was a bride (11 months ago today!), my hair was not long. Long enough to have an updo. But, far from long. In fact, my hairstylist-friend about pooped in my pants because he couldn’t get all the hairs to stay in place. Just sayin, not all brides grow out the locks. =)

  12. I have similar videos. This is the same process I go through when I get my haircut every month….

  13. I’ve been trying to grow my hair out since last October. Then in June, this evil stylist turned it orange and gave me the worst, stringy hair cut ever. I call it the A.D.D. cut. Even though I’m fighting it, I know I’m going to have to give in and just chop it :(

Just remember, if you end up walking down that aisle before your hair is ready, extensions are always an option ;)

  14. ooo, she looked so much better with long hair.
