I got my dress. Wait, what? Yes. I got my dress. Oh my God.
I can’t believe I got my dress. I didn’t mean to buy a dress (or rather, have Mommy buy it, thanks Mommy!). Yesterday, we just went to “look.” To try on different styles and get a sense of what suits me. To have girly mom-daughter time. Not to buy. I even told myself earlier that day, “No falling in love!”
I wasn’t extremely picky in what I wanted in a wedding dress, but I was thinking lace and ruffles and poof and maybe chiffon. I’d like the wedding to have a romantic, whimsical feel so I figured that’s the type of dress that would best fit the theme. So we walked into La Soie and that’s what I tried on. Frilly dresses with sheer flowers lining the straps. Vintage-esque lace dresses that swept the floor. As I stared in the mirror, I was happy. My mom and Veronica (the wonderful lady who helped us) made comments like, “Oh, that’s cute.”
Then Veronica had me try on another dress, “just to see.” I looked at it and said it’s pretty, but there’s no way I have the boobs for it. But I tried it on anyway.
Mom and Veronica gasped.
“Oh, wow,” they said.
I gave myself a good look and I had to admit — wow.
You guys, the dress is nothing like what I imagined. It has no lace or ruffles or poof or chiffon. It’s … sexy. Yeah. A sexy wedding dress. Oh dear, what will grandma think?
(I guess one good thing about having the body of a 12-year-old boy is that you can wear “sexier” pieces without looking slutty, IMHO.)
It’s also simple yet elegant, and can have a touch of 1920s glamour with the right accessories. The dress was an off-the-rack sample and their only one and a great price and Mom said she’d pay (!), so we bought it.
Do I love it? Of course.
Is it The One? Iono.
There were no tears of joy, and when I flip through wedding magazines, I still have a wandering eye. (“I like that one, tooooooooo.”) But oh well, done and done. I HAVE A DRESS! Wow.
LOL I knew you’d find one today!! I just knew it! Famous last words and all. :P Yayyy!! And your story is just proof once again that it’s always the one you least expect, haha! Any hints??? (worth an ask)

My dress was very puffy and very cinderella – think we counted about 30 layers to the dress!
I saw my cousin as I walked in the church and his jaw was on the floor – couldn’t believe it was me in the dress as I live in trousers!
Oh yay!! As soon as I saw you tweeted you were going dress shopping and not buying, I had a feeling you would walk away with a dress; that’s how it always happens! I’m sure you look amazing in it!

michelle, your blog is by far one of my favorite “zomg i’m getting maaaaaaaarried!” blogs. in fact, probably my favorite of all. and i know that isn’t what your blog is “about” but lets be real. it is. it’s an engagement blog. : ) but that’s not a baaaaaaad thing! it’s such a good thing! so please don’t be offended that i say it’s an engagement blog. be happy that i say that it is my. favorite. and i hope someday my blog-that-turns-into-an-engagement-blog is just as funny and awesome and heartwarming.
i also secretly hope that even though my mom says she won’t pay for my wedding, she buys my dress because she thinks it is just. that. gorgeous. : )

I kind of had the same thing when I found my dress. I wasn’t planning on buying anything; I just wanted to get an idea of what I liked. We had three or four stores picked out and… It was the third dress I tried on at the first store.
You just kind of have a moment with yourself in the mirror. It sounds weird, but I can’t think of how else to say it. You just can see the whole wedding all at once, and it feels like magic.

Yay!! I also didn’t cry when I got my dress. My mom and I looked for 2 days, and then went back to the first store and got one of the first dresses I tried one. With my maids of honor and my Dad there. Yes, my Dad. :)

All the world’s a stage for some brides to be. When you put on the Designer Dress after trying on piles of tulle, lace and pouf, you looked radiant in the sophisticated, simple silk silhouette. The wedding consultant and I knew this is for you to look like the” Princess for the day” and not wait for 8 months. That was a holistic feeling. Next!

congrats on finding your dress! i shed a few tears when i found mine (two weeks ago), but more so because everyone was like “yes, i love it” and all the hype and all the excitement of being one step closer to knowing “theme” and getting this wedding thing even closer!!! yay!
