This past weekend, Matt and I started our registry. The creation of the wedding registry is a process that sounds really fun in theory—hello! home shopping spree with a nifty gun!—but for us, it was just kind of confusing. First, we don’t yet know where we’ll be living, so it’s hard to focus on a specific decorating style, and second, we don’t yet cook, so it’s hard to know what sort of stuff we’ll need in the kitchen. Our day consisted of a lot of …
Matt: Do we need a basting brush?
Me: YES! A BASTING BRUSH! … what’s basting?
Clearly, we’ll have to go back and edit. Anyway, Matt was most excited about his blow torch, which I’ll be able to use, you know, for all the times I make crème brulee (riiight) and I was most giddy about my Sharper Image Electric Wine Opener, as I plan on drinking a lot throughout marriage. Other than that, our registry doesn’t excite me a whole lot. Forks, trash cans, cutting boards … meh.
If I were to create my own registry, it would look more like this. (Wedding guests, please don’t really buy us this stuff … I mean, you can if you want—and thank you!—but the hubs might be like, WTF? Also, I can’t believe I just said hubs. I’m really creepy.)
Ninja salt and pepper shakers!
Liberty of London Watering Can. I really need this! For watering stuff! Yeah, I also might need some stuff to water.

I love your idea of registry. And I think if you come up with an alternative to a traditional registry … well, that’s mighty cool! But, let me suggest that you do *something* regarding a registry, because there are a lot of people out there whom you don’t want buying presents for you off registry. =) And if you want to see my registry, I’m happy to share it with you . I think we did a good job of registering for a range of items (cost, use) and we really do use most of the things we got!
This post just made me laugh a lot. I’ve only met you IRL once, and yet I can practically hear you talking throughout this whole thing!
“Yeah, I also might need stuff to water” – hahaha. that’s awesome :) I felt the same way when I started fake-making our registry (Umm, I registered on a few store’s websites to make fake registries to see how I could get the most bang for other people’s buck! LOL! I’m special.)
Ooo, panda skillet! I like!
hahah i love those things. i really want that watering can too!!! i started setting up our registry a few weekends ago. josh is all “whatever you want, i want,” and i’m all thinking, “yeah right,” as i don’t want him to be hating all the stuff we got. anyway, hopefully soon we will go do the for real setting up, since everything i did so far is online. also, i love cooking, so i’m SO EXCITED about ALL THE AWESOME cooking and BAKING things i will get!!! yay! good luck! where did you register?
That watering can? I’m knee-deep in swoonage. I need one of those in my life. so I can stare at it.
Actually that panda skillet and ninja shakers are cute. I bet they make cooking more fun too. Haha. Put them in the registry. :D
As for the rest, you can always ask your mom.:D
I love the shakers! And the pan. They are great.
My husband (oh my god, I refuse to call him hubby or hubs and have been going strong with avoiding it for the last eight months) and I lived together for years before we got married and didn’t need any household junk, especially since we moved into a one-bedroom apartment. We got married in Vegas and then had a reception four months later and *everyone* gave us cash. It was the most excellent thing ever.
I love the panda skillet and ninja shakers! You can always sneak those on your registry in addition to the more “normal” things you pick out with hubs. Actually when I did my registry, me and my now-husband couldn’t even agree on the same stores to register at so we ended up using myregistry.com to do a registry with any store. So he got his classic (aka boring) crate & barrel stuff and I got my super-cute Anthropologie stuff I wanted.
C’mon, those ninja shakers will go in any kitchen! They are so fun.
Ah! That panda skillet is the cutest skillet OF ALL TIME.
Considering we don’t really cook (and you know, aren’t getting married but whatever) I picture our registry being all:
Her: Uhm, new hockey stick?
Me: And Under Armour everything.
Her: Oooh! McDonald’s gift cards.
Etc. Yeah, we might have some growing up to do.
maybe you should start a paypal account. no seriously. my friends did that for their honeymoon fund. and i think it totally made sense since they really didn’t need of the houseware stuff.
btw, i love the panda skillet.
Most guys are afraid to get married because they’re afraid of losing half their stuff if things go wrong. With this stuff, however, no man would be afraid to give it all up.
Is that a skillet? It’s a pan. Duh.
I would like a panda skillet too, please!
I think the blowtorch is a wonderful idea. You can make ribeye roast with it…..
i don’t even use salt and pepper but i want those ninjas!
and um registering is ridiculous, but as i said, you can never register for too much and you can always return it :)
Nilsa – Haha, good point about not wanting some people to buy stuff off the registry!
Ali – We should meet IRL more!
Alyssa – Yep, we compared prices, too.
Amy – Bed Bath & Beyond and Target. We also went to Crate & Barrel but I’m not sure if we’ll register there. Where did you register?
Ally – I think we’re secretly hoping for that too. Maybe not so secretly? Hehe.
ShopGurl – Yeah, we thought about doing wishpot – it’s soooo fun! But I think a lot of people like going to actual store to buy stuff. Anthropologie on your registry? LUCKY!!!
samdotcom – ha ha
Natasha – yeah … that’s a good idea!
Derek – can you make it for us?
katelin – Yep, definitely gotta register at places with good return policies.
i’m not getting married and i want 90% of this stuff….birthday registry anyone?
that’s uncouth you say? DANG IT.
a birthday registry?!! that’s brilliant, jimaiemarie! where can i sign up? lol.
michelle, we’ve only met once IRL, too, btw, but i can still totally hear you saying all these things! as for registries, we only registered at crate & barrel and we use EVERYTHING we got ALL the time. macy’s isn’t really our style and steven wanted us to register on amazon.com, but we didn’t.
even though target is my favorite store EVER, i heard it’s not a good place to register because if you want to return/exchange something, it has to be to the same department where the gift originally came from… not sure why’d you have to return something you registered for, but you never know. and at bed, bath, & beyond, you can return stuff and get cash back, which is worth keeping in mind for the future, no?
just my two cents =)
(and also, i will never say ‘hubs’ or ‘hubby’ cuz those are just weird-sounding words. steven is my husband. i had a harder time calling him ‘fiance,’ haha. happy tuesday, michelle!)
