Minimoon: Palm Springs

We decided on a honeymoon spot! Remember when we had no idea where to go? Well, a well-traveled friend asked us: What do you like to do? My response: Eat and drink. Without hesitation, she knew our perfect destination: Argentina.

This December, Matt and I will be gorging ourselves on steak and sangria. Bring on the fat pants!

But that’s a long time away. So we decided to take a minimoon, too. The day after our wedding, we’ll be driving east to Palm Springs. I’m looking forward to slipping on a bikini and collapsing in the desert sun.

We’ll be staying at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club, which I’ve heard so many wonderful things about.

I actually lived in Palm Springs for a short time six years ago. It’s sort of where Matt and I started dating. (We met in LA and then I was like, “See ya!” He then drove to see me almost every other weekend. I mean, who wouldn’t?) While there, though, we never explored the town too much. And I know there are so many cute places that have popped up since I left.

So, any suggestions on what to do/see/eat/drink in Palm Springs?

P.S. 10 more days.

  1. Yay for Palm Springs! I think you already know this, but I grew up in Indio, which is 20 miles east of PS. And yet, I’m at a loss for recommendations! Here’s the first couple things that come to mind, though I know there are WAY cooler things to do there.

-The Living Desert. If you like animals, you’ll like this place. It’s basically a zoo, but since the weather is so hot, you’ll see some different animals than you might at any other zoo. Plus, there’s a butterfly garden!
-The River at Rancho Mirage (about 10 miles from Palm Springs). It’s an outdoor shopping mall, with tons of great restaurants, a movie theatre, and awesome shops. Check out the Tulip Hill Winery (teensy little shop near Starbucks) and do a tasting. Deeelish.
-Take a scenic drive up Highway 74. Beautiful mountain views. But be careful, because some people drive a little crazy around the curves there. :-\

I hope you guys have so much fun!!

  2. Oh, and if you like sushi/Japanese food, Maki Maki is a great restaurant at The River. At least that’s what I hear…I’m not big on sushi myself, but I’ve had their teriyaki chicken, and it’s fantastic. Good drinks there, too.

  3. Here are some great places to eat:
The Cork tree is really good! http://www.thecorktree.com/
Or Piero’s Acqua Pazza (they have happy hour from 8:30 to closing) and Babe’s BBQ and Brewery is really good too-both are in The River shopping center http://www.theriveratranchomirage.com/restaurants.html

And this hike is really easy but really fun:

    Hope that helps :)

  4. How exciting! You have to eat at Al Dente Pasta restaurant. It’s on N. Palm Canyon Drive. There’s also a Roy’s Restaurant (hawaiian-style) in Rancho Mirage …. so delish!

  5. Ride the tramway and take a little hike in the mtns. I go up all the time during summer and have a pass. Hey, i can get you 10% off your ticket too!

  6. Very cool! A couple who is an acquaintance of mine is doing a year long driving honeymoon. One of their first stops was the ACE. check it out!

  7. that is such a cute minimoon, i’ve always wanted to stay at that hotel, looks so fun. as for the area, all i really know is the living desert but man it might be too hot to do anything but swim and drink, which isn’t a bad idea, haha.

    and yay 10 days!!

  8. A mini-moon AND a honeymoon? Wonderful! I’ve never been to Palm Springs so I can’t wait to see pics from when you get back. AND pics of your big day that’s happening in TEN days! Holy Matrimony! ;)

  10. Go to Cheeky’s for breakfast!

Indian canyon on a scooter ride! You can rent them for $40 at the hotel…

  11. Oh I would definitely recommend renting beach cruisers and exploring the town. We went to Pinocchio’s for bottomless mimosas and the proceeded to so a little buzzed site seeing…highly entertaining. <3

There is also the best little art gallery/ vintage store on Indian Canyon…I can't remember what its called but its next to an abandoned gas station right in the heart of town!

  17. Congratulations on the wedding. You will love the Ace. My husband and I have spent a little bit of time there. It’s a very sexy and groovy place.

If you get a chance, grab breakfast at Norma’s at Parker. They have an unbelievable menu—banana-Macadamia nut flap-jacks, chocolate french toast, papaya brown butter cinnamon crepes, etc. Yeah, It’s pretty good stuff.
