Showing off my skillz, my new haircut and Matt’s spectacular view.
I’ve conquered Week 1 of the EA Sports Active 30 Day Challenge. Overall, it’s been good. This may or may not be a direct effect of the program, but on Saturday, my unabashed grandmother told me I looked like I lost weight since the last time I saw her. (She also asked, with Matt sitting right next to me, “Do you have anything new to share? Want to see a wedding invitation that just came in the mail? Oh, I just love weddings.” But that’s a different story.) Anyway, I’m feeling motivated and in the zone. Here are my latest thoughts.
LIKES:
- Tennis! This is so much fun with the Wii balance board. I get really into it and love whacking the ball at the target. I just wish the sets were longer. I could do this for hours (or at least a good seven minutes or so).
- Boxing! I have a lot of pent-up aggression.
- The resistance band. When I first saw the thing, I thought it looked kind of flimsy, but it’s actually gives good pull. My life goal is to have arms like Jennifer Aniston’s, so I’m all about exercises like lateral raises and bicep curls.
- Any exercise that involves jumping. Inline skating is particularly cool because I would never be able to do half-pipe tricks in real-life without eating it.
DISLIKES
- Too many squats. I hate squats.
- Once you’re in the challenge, there’s no way out! No ESC button, no fast-forward, no “Back to main menu.” I learned this during a squat session, of course.
- The dance sets are uninspiring. I’m definitely no dancer (just trust me on this), but even the most difficult levels are easy peasy. This ain’t DDR, for sure.
Overall, the pace is good, I still glow like a pig and I’m actually sticking with an exercise program! And that’s saying a lot.
How are you all doing with the challenge?

Looking great, how I wish I had a wii so I can exercise and not sit around all day.
I made it 4 days (including the rest day). My favorites are inline skating (though I cannot for the life of me keep up with that) and tennis. I did get really frustrated at anything that involved bicep curls– maybe it’s the worn out wii remotes that I’m using, but the system would not recognize my freakin’ bicep curls. Esp. on my right side. So now I have a huge right bicep and a wimpy left one. :) And I definitely agree w/ you that the dance stuff is kind of sucky, and actually the thing I would be most embarassed about neighbors accidentally witnessing.
first off good job!
second, whatta view!!!!
I really want an EA sports active! It looks like such a fun way to stay fit! and according to grandma, it seems to be working!
I am desperately trying to talk my brother into buying it since he’s the one with the Wii (that borrow as often as possible!) He’s a workout fiend, so he should have this, right???
i would love tennis! i really miss REAL tennis. and cute hair!
I seriously think that DDR alone is an amazing workout. But this does look fun, and now that I finally have a television, a Wii does seem enticing.
